"The call usually revolves around the con artist claiming a bill is overdue and the customer needs to make an immediate payment, often by prepaid debit card, to prevent crews from shutting off the power in the next 30 minutes, Seattle City Light said. They even fake the number on the caller ID.

“Seattle City Light will never demand immediate payment over the phone,” said Scott Thomsen, Seattle City Lights Director of Communications."

The call I got didn't even state the name of the electric company they thought I had. Seems that so many people are wise to these issues that they make you go through an automated process before connecting you to a human, rather than wasting that human's time on someone that will just hang up on them.
