For some this is okay. I'm looking at England next Christmas personally... We'd be going for British soccer mostly, but I'm also enjoying the idea of being there when it's NOT high season.

To the point about driving, I've driven round trip Houston/Seattle/NorCal at least a dozen times during the summer months.never plan a scenic cross-country drive in the winter . It's just too unpredictable and there are multiple passes to cross. Even the flat straight freeways become super treacherous in snowy conditions. I've seen I-40 near Amarillo littered with stranded and wrecked cars and tractor trailers a few times. Driving in that is white-knuckle and frustratingly slow, not at all scenic when you're solely focused on not crashing.
