Hello Seattle -- I know everyone has them and I know we may not talk much about them, but let's hear it from the locals who make this board what it is. If I am a newcomer to Seattle (will be shortly) and wanted to learn what locals thought of the following neighborhoods, what stereotypes come to mind? For instance, if you told me you were going to move to Cambridge, MA and live around Central Square, I would guess local college kid (probably smart) looking for cheaper housing than campus can offer with some decent nightlife. Let's play this game, but for Seattle area communities instead (and in no particular order):

-Belltown
-Downtwon Bellevue
-First Hill
-Bellevue (crossroads)
-Kirkland
-Capitol Hill
-Fremont
-Wallingford
-Lower Quenne Anne
-Downtown (Pioneer Square)
-International District
-Lake City
-Redmond
-Issiquah
-SoDo
-West Seattle
-Northgate
-Aurora
-Shoreline
-Tacoma
-Everett
-any others worth mentioning?

-Belltown Young professional with a loaded wallet wanting to live where the action is
-Downtown Bellevue Young professional, works at microsoft, enjoys tacky R&B music and looks in the mirror alot
-First Hill - Hospital worker, middle class, mixed with transitional housing and bums under the freeway.
-Bellevue (crossroads) - Mexican, Russian or Indian immigrant, possibly works two jobs, likes playing chess

That is pretty funny, especially the downtown Bellevue one (looks in the mirror a lot)...keep 'em coming. I learn a lot about The Emerald City through these exercises.

Ballard: Old Stereotype: Elderly Scandanavians driving an old Buick at 5 MPH with the seat belt dragging outside the car, and cheap restaurants specializing in bland boiled vegetables.
New stereotype: Younger folks driving newer Volvos, and expensive restaurants specializing in free range wild harvested Pan Asian fusion sorrel in a raspberry creme fraiche.

You could put that one on Queen Anne, too. Every other person on the road seems to be driving a <insert expensive, status-symbol-type luxury automobile here>, with a latte in one hand a a cell phone in the other. Actually, that could apply to much of Puget Sound .

We live in Issaquah and there seem to be many people who are overly-enamored with their money, but that's more so closer to the lake than up in the hills.

Tacoma and Everett seem very blue collar, with plenty of industry going on in both. Not a bad thing, just an observation.

This is all just my opinion, of course. It's not "fact" and is certainly not meant to include every person who may live in these areas or offend anyone.

-First Hill :colorful, free spirited! a little "sketchy"
-Bellevue (crossroads) white folks are minority here, now! culture crossroads!
-Kirkland Mix of young, up and coming professionals, and some of the Downtown Bellevue syndrome!
-Capitol Hill: very similar to First Hill, but some real yuppies in there.
-Fremont: Oh, we are our own special breed in Fremont! But we're FUN!
-Wallingford: We are SOOO special, and proud of ourselves, nearly perfect, but please believe that we are COOL!
-Lower Quenne Anne: We ARE cool!
-Downtown (Pioneer Square) Very colorful, eclectic crowd, interesting!
-International District: what language you speak????
-Lake City: nothing too much one way or the other, but attracts some not-so-desirable!
-Redmond: OMG we are SO much better than you, and we have SO much money, or we want you to believe
-Issiquah: Used to be the boondocks, been ruined now, trying to be like Redmond.
-SoDo
-West Seattle: Very cool, but tough if you have to commute from
-Northgate: Kind of a scary mix and mess, now
-Aurora: scary in places, but just a few blocks away can be GREAT
-Shoreline: same as Aurora
-Tacoma: like Everett, it has some dive areas, but some beautiful areas. Don't let the sterotype of these being rough areas scare you off. Both have terrific neighborhoods and schools!
-Everett: see above
-any others worth mentioning?
Just my humble, random thoughts at first glance!
