Walking around downtown I got the impression that people are just a little depressed. Kind of aloof, polite but not interested, looking for better days, engaged, but not with you. The infamous Seattle Freeze honoring political correctness at all costs is enjoying a firm bolster with more rules....Provider" instead of Doctor, husband instead of partner, partner instead of wife, and above all don't mess it up with any quasi political thought of deed..... or the Seattle Glare occurs....

You know the silent looks of a soft disdain, delivered with eye to eye contact for any faux pax not on the current list of acceptable conduct. Infinitely satisfying to the person delivering the silent message the gaze stays on the offender for about 2 seconds and wordlessly departs to locate yet another uninformed initiate, that "we have rules here". Social conduct, noises both intentional and not are tempered in each way by these rules. I almost heard in my mind 'how could you not know...? Oh but never mind, here, let me apply a tiny strip of eye contact without a smile, and a layer of contempt in the collective towards you.

You have all seen it. The Glare Club is ready to pounce... but the real fun begins when one finds that one of the targets does not know about the regles and does not care.

These days one can only choose a response like: "Why are you staring at me?" or "Are you looking for Ophthalmology?" and having witnessed responses like this the uninformed is looked upon with an arsenious raised eye brow and is relegated to the outcast class. Be gone or CONFORM.

Gone are the days of fish throwing, children's piano playing and spice trading. Further still are the stuffed animals from gift shops in hospitals. It's more fun to look around and find someone who does not know the "rules" AND IS above all not following them.

I hope that soon, very soon, one will be sliding down a steep hill on ice crashing into parked cars and laughing at the unintentional and unavoidable carnage. Enough correctness I say....enough!

To the Barricades!

I hope I'm not alone in this, but I have no clue what the hell you are talking about.

I'm thinking of that band House of Pain song Jump Around.

House of Pain because it reads like it was written in one. Jump Around because that prose is all over the place!
Anyway AADAD, stick to the Island and you'll be OK.

OP, you're babbling. It sounds like you have a very active imagination, and project a lot of product of your imagination onto strangers you pass while walking.

There are people walking around downtown? Whatever for?

I agree that social distancing is quite natural in Seattle and that has helped to shut the virus down in the area to a large degree.

AADAD might be off of RN work for a few days amidst COVID-19 and all and just trying to relax. I may be the only one on the Washington city data forums that understands what he said above.

However, I'm not quite able to translate it to y'all. Can you say "I'm extremely annoyed at stuck-up spazzes from Seattle and western Washington? Better than you types?" I'm thinking AADAD needs some more down-to-earth-ness going forward from western-Warshington-ers.
