Hi all,

Lived in Tokyo for a while and just transplanted to Seattle from San Francisco and wondering if there are any Japanese-themed spas, onsens, bath houses like the Kabuki in San Francisco?

Ideally looking for something downtownish that I can get to easy for that post-work soak.

Hi vampmiller. Well, we don't have any onsen in Seattle since we have no thermal pools in this part of Washington. And I don't think there are Japanese-style sento bath houses in the International District, which is the only place there might be any but if there are, someone will chime in. There is a Japanese-style hydrotherapy spa in the Nexus Hotel north of U.W.
Hotel Nexus, a North Seattle Hotel Near the University of Washington

Fellow posters, the sento in the Panama Hotel at 6th and Main is only preserved, right, not now used?

Shiatsu is available in many locations.

Up at Snoqualmie Pass, Salish Lodge has a sort-of Japanese style bath in a rock pool. Far away; expensive; probably for guests only.

There are two Japanese spas - one near Federal Way - and I think one near Everett - but neither are near downtown

I'll check what is in the international district though

Thanks CityGirl72.

I've been putting alka seltzer in my bathtub, but it's just not the same thing!

My sister raves about the Olympus spa in Tacoma, which she claims is well worth the drive.
It, however, is a Korean spa rather than Japanese, and I don't know how those spas differ....And being for women only, I'm not about to find out.

I came in here to post about the Olympus Spa. I've only been to the one in Tacoma to soak, but the one in Lynnwood looks a lot nicer when I got my mom a gift certificate there. I think it costs $25 for all day, plus whatever "services" you choose to get.

The Salish Lodge spa in Snoqualmie is like an onsen/sento but you have to pay $15 per session and, of course, wear clothing. It's the best I've been to outside of Kansai Japan (and Colorado).

The Gated Sanctuary in Snohomish has the feeling of a Japanese hot springs combined with a spa. They are clothing-optional and have coed days, women's days, and men's days. There are jetted hot pools and a cold plunge outside on a private deck. Surrounding the pools are beautiful cedar trees. They also have a eucalyptus steam room and their massages are the best you can get! Could this offer any of these? If not, at least it is a facsimile of a traditional japanese inn.
