Hi everyone,

My wife and I will be moving to Seattle in two months and are looking for advice on where to live. We plan to rent initially.

I will be working in Renton. My wife will most likely be working in U district or downtown, but that's TBD. Budget is 3K for a 2br.

Based on my research, south Seattle areas like Columbia City, North Beacon Hill, or Mt Baker would probably be most ideal for us. The morning commute to Renton from those areas seems doable against traffic, but I'm curious as to how bad the evening commute back would be.

Are there any other areas of Seattle that might be worth considering? Central district or Leschi might be stretching it a bit but not sure. We are trying to avoid West Seattle due to the bridge issue.

We plan on flying out a few weeks to see places in person. Hopefully more places will be doing tours by then...

Thanks!

Don't forget Seward Park, on the hill above Columbia City.

Nice budget for a 2 BR. Can live in just about any neighborhood.

I’d vote for Columbia City. The geographics would work for you and it’s a fun, vibrant area to live. Added benefit, there is light rail that goes from there Downtown and to UW. The drive to Renton and back at end of day would be somewhat of a reverse commute, definitely doable.

Columbia City++ I drive to the U-dist (from the east, and then up through the south) enough to say - be close to light rail if at all possible. The bottlenecks in that area coming from anywhere but the north are horrid. Pretty much same for downtown. I actually find downtown to be a bit more accessible, but that's relative. The light rail just makes that all go away.
