“The actual death toll in Washington state could be two to three times higher than the current tally, health officials said Thursday, because of deaths from respiratory symptoms not recognized as COVID-19 early in the year. As of 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, at least 1,044 deaths in the state have been people known to have the disease.

Meanwhile, the state continues to tiptoe out of isolation, declaring three more counties eligible to apply to speed up their reopening under Gov. Jay Inslee’s four-part recovery plan”.

Related to this:

The state has admitted that over a hundred of those people did not die of covid-19 either as a primary cause or as a contributing cause of death. It appears nowhere on the death certificate.

The problem is the way the deaths are figured. When someone tests positive for Covid-19, the state is given the name and date of birth. When someone dies, the state (but a different agency) is given the name and the date of birth.

Anyone on both lists is counted as having died of Covid-19.

At first, this would have been pretty accurate. But as time goes on, this method is less and less accurate, because people have had plenty of time to test positive, recover, and then die of something else entirely. This is not disputed. The state has admitted, for example, that five of the "Covid" deaths were actually people who actually were shot to death.

There is little doubt that the reported count of Covid-19 deaths is an undercount. Many more than the purported overcount likely have died from Covid-19, but weren't reported as such, because they were never tested. On the other hand, in Florida they weren't reporting deaths due to Covid-19 of visitors to Florida, including many snowbirds, because they weren't officially "residents".

All states report deaths of their own residents. Counties, too.
