"Seattle Police were present in large numbers following the crowd and collecting evidence at crime and fire scenes." I guess when the City Council told the cops to stop hurting people, they took them literally. Fascinating that quite a few (though by no means most) of the commenters in the Cap Hill blog seem to think that the marauding was a pretty good idea.

True, yet if law-abiding citizens and business owners show up to put a stop to the destruction of THEIR property and THEIR neighborhoods, you can be damn sure the police will swiftly arrive to cuff them and the scumbag prosecutors will ensure examples are made of them.

Do not worry about defunding the police. I am sure that if things get bad, the mayor and city council members will have a security detail consisting of several armed policemen to protect them.

"Defund the police" is one of those things like "repeal and replace" that sounds good as a slogan, but no one is actually willing to properly investigate a solution that will actually work or compromise to get a partially working solution that can be improved over time. So it either never goes through or if it does go through then everyone has to deal with a lot of bad crap that could have been avoided with half decent planning. I'm surprised that the police haven't put forward a load of responsibilities that they feel they shouldn't be handling directly (like homelessness or mentally ill people) and that the city isn't working with them to at least identify these kinds of areas so that police authority can be maintained in areas where they are needed (like actual crime) and removed from areas that they aren't even trained to handle.

Most likely, one thing I’ve learned is NEVER underestimate the sheer stupidity of Seattle voters
