Has anyone noticed how it is nearly impossible to find spike or yeast to put on your popcorn at the movie theaters in Seattle? Every movie-plex I go to has never even heard of spike or yeast all the more have it... Anyone know where to find some?

Noooooooooo spike and yeast is powdered stuff you can shake onto your popcorn. Spike has all sorts of stuff in it like onion powder, garlic powder...other powders... It is absolutely delicious. And yeast, is well, yeast.

Yeah, some vegetarians like to put yeast on their popcorn to add protein. I've never heard of a movie theater doing that though. Maybe some indy theater somewhere.

I think most theatres use salt and some butter like substance.
If any theatre would have it, it might be the Grand Illusion or the Harvard Exit or the Central or Columbia City Theaters, but I can't vouch for it.
Brewers yeast, in small quantities, has almost a nutty/cheesy flavor, and I believe it's packed with B vitamins.

Never heard of it.
And I grew up in movie theatres. My dad was a manager.

It's pretty common at theaters in the parts of California I've lived. But, yeah, you're more likely to find it at the indie places. I prefer it to the fake movie theater butter and put a small shaker of it in my bag when I'm going to a megaplex. I do miss the sweet popcorn that I used to get in England and Germany though and I haven't yet found a workaround for that.

DgoNative, you have us stumped. WHERE ARE YOU FROM WITH YOUR SPIKE AND YEAST POPCORN? Clearly, "spike" is a local term somewhere for a mixed bunch of seasonings. Yeast on popcorn? OMG blecchhh..... Where did you encounter these strange things?

I'm not stumped - it's pretty common actually.

Actually, to give it a cheesy flavor.

It's called Nutritional Yeast (or Hippie Dust) ... and I think spike is just a brand name.

There are some places that provide it in Seattle - I can't recall where, I will come back to this thread.
