The only reason I can think of to not fly to get to your destination is COVID-19. The only reason I can think of not to make the trip, period, is COVID-19.

Yes, I would be flying if it weren't for covid. I'm still concerned about staying in air bnbs if someone was there the night before. I thought about renting an RV, but then I'd have to ship my car and my car I'm sure drives much nicer than the RV.

If on interstates, I'd take I-5 to LA then the southern route east into FL. Long way and not terribly interesting. Back roads, all bets are off and I'd adjust as I went based on weather. Nor would I try it during a COVID outbreak, but that's me. Flying would reduce exposure, but that's the second to last state in the Union I'd fly into (after Arizona).

1. Drive south to L.A.

2. Turn left.

Such a pain.

Are you sure you want to drive all that distance if you aren't even doing it for the thrills of the road?

My sister and I had a time-sensitive situation in Texas that would afford us each $150k last October and we decided to take the small risk of getting sick, much less very sick. I was pleasantly surprised how safe it felt. Costco scares me ten times more. I had my own row each way. Flight was, at most, 2/5 capacity there and probably closer to 1/4 on the way back. Double masked or N95.

You will waste so much time and money driving. You will be exposed along the way. Better to hop on a plane.

Unless you WANT the road trip. That changes everything....

Good grief... I would stay out of that state for at least the next 6 weeks...

This is not the fault of people in Florida, but whatever planning committee decided to let warm, comfortable Florida to host the most anticipated game of the year.

Not that we are any stranger to pandemic mass gatherings, but at least most of our protestors wore masks!

Actually the end of March is less likely to have snow than in winter, but yes you can run into it especially in the Rocky Mountains. Funny, I did this exact trip in March 1989 and the only problem was freezing rain in Missouri. Anecdotal for sure.

All that said keep an eye on the 10 day forecasts and be flexible. If everything looks good the most efficient route is the following:

I90 out of Seattle to I82
I82 to I84
I84 to I80
I80 to I25
I25 to I70
I70 to I64
I64 to I57
I57 to I24
I24 to I75
I75 into Florida

With 9 hours of driving per day you are looking at about 5 days of driving, not including possible weather delays.

You can hit a lot of good cities in between here and there. No point in even going to Texas, most of the big cities are out of the way. Instead of listing interstates, I’m gonna say carve your path this way:

Day 1: Seattle to Boise
Day 2: Boise to Salt Lake City
Day 3: Salt Lake to Denver
Day 4: Denver to Kansas City
Day 5: KC to Nashville
Day 6: Nashville to Atlanta
Day 7: Atlanta to Florida
Add Savannah if you want a little side trip on the way.

That actually sounds like an awesome road trip. But I like all of those cities. I’d want to double the time in each city, but you can at least get the flavor of each and still muscle through it.
