I am sure that Australia, with its one minor recession (pre-covid) in 30 years, and its 0.000038 death rate (971 deaths for a population of 25.36 million) is really hurting for economic and covid advice from the US, a country so fractured that we have a significant number of people suddenly doubting vaccines and masks, which have been used to successfully counter disease for hundreds, if not thousands of years now, and with a death rate so high its shameful.

And people who lock down early and hard aren't 'in a panic.' They understand the simple math that a lockdown in the case of 10 covid cases is much more effective and thorough than a lockdown when you have 100 covid cases. And that if you do not lockdown, eventually your hospitals are overwhelmed and you do have to lockdown... this time for 2 months instead of two weeks.

Here's a thought. Don't worry about what Australia does. Don't like it? DON'T LIVE THERE.

Unfortunately, there are now 1,240 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in this state, a new record. The count is doubling every two weeks. At least here in King County, the number of deaths are still low (1.9% of positive cases) compared to last Dec./Jan.

You're lying. And one must'nt tell lies.

Sweden, no restrictions or lockdown. United Kingdom, extremely restricted and locked down.

Yeah, anyone can cherry pick data, one country failing to use lockdowns properly proves nothing:

Compare Sweden with more comparably dense countries to itself that had restrictive lockdowns, like it's neighbors.

Which proves that lockdowns are ineffective. Likewise you cherry picked data.

Note that you didn't answer the UK vs Sweden situation.

The wonderful thing with Our World In Data is that you can continue adding/removing data points and ask questions.

Here's another good one:

Sweden vs several total lockdown countries.

Kinda makes you wonder, huh...

Funny how the example of Sweden keeps coming up, as if it's an example for the US. It's not.

Covid lockdown: Seven enduring claims fact-checked

However, Sweden is a very different country to the UK and has characteristics that may have helped it during the pandemic.

It has a lower population density, and a high proportion of people live alone. The capital, Stockholm, is also less of an international transit hub than London.

When compared to other Scandinavian countries with similar population profiles, Sweden has fared much worse and recorded a significantly higher number of deaths than its neighbours, all of which have had tougher restrictions during much of the pandemic.
...
There's also no evidence that Sweden's economy did any better than its neighbours.

Sweden has maybe 8, 10 million people? Like the size of WA. How can people possibly compare the entire US to it?

So now you can replace Sweden with Seattle and get the same results... Then wonder why WA "has been doing better" than places like CA or FL.

Besides myself, only 2-3 other unmasked patrons at my Starbucks earlier today during the 1-hour I was inside.

In contrast, at the bar yesterday evening, almost all were unmasked even when walking around and not drinking.
