"The June record high was 96. But Saturday we topped 102, Sunday we hit 104—the hottest day ever recorded, until yesterday. Yesterday reached an astounding 108 degrees. Outside Seattle, it was even hotter. ' --National Geographic

Historic heat wave, something that happens once every 1000 or even 10,000 years.

Perhaps. We've only been recording temperatures in Seattle since 1894, so such estimates are a mathematical extrapolation. The wobbly jet stream has been creating greater variance in the weather, so we are more likely to see extremes now.

At least it's cooler now and it was even raining in Olympia today. Just got back home and it felt great to walk around in it.

110 in Sammamish. Temps went way down at night, high 60's. 40+ degree difference.

Anybody have any explanation as to whether this is a climate change disaster or not?

Global warming, I’ve seen it with increased flood intensity in Bangladesh, I’ve seen it in Iceland with glaciers retreating, I’ve seen it in the Northern Colombia mountains snow cap and lack of rain. I’ve seen it in the crippling droughts of Mozambique and Ethiopia. I’ve heard and seen people all over the world talking about it. It’s real.

At least it wasn't as bad as in Lytton, Canada. Holy smokes.

If I was in your profession (and seriously believed in global warming), I would tell people to stop buying homes and drastically reduce their environmental footprint. In much of the world, large families easily live in small spaces. By promoting home sales instead of apartment living, you are boosting global warming. By traveling to all those countries you list in your posts, you are also worsening global warming. I also assume that you drive to show all the houses and do not take the bus. Your indirect real estate driven environmental and global warming footprint is insane!

Thanks for your kind words, mate. I don't fly often but when I do, am religious about buying carbon offsets. Perfect? Of course not, but it's what I do. Similar to you perhaps, I'm offended by unnecessarily larger square footage homes. It's not practical to think that everyone will live in small spaces, I do though regularly encourage clients to choose smaller, closer in spaces. See, you are I aren't so different after all . Another thing that is cool, the advent of work from home, great online tools and electronic signature has reduced my annual driven miles from 20,000 (when I first started in real estate 20 years ago) to about 5,000 a year now.
