Any recommendations for good locations near Seattle for watching and photographing Perseids? I don't mind driving (3-4 hours) away from the City to get away from light pollution. Ideally want to have a good foreground for taking photos (a lake or a mountain).

How are Cle Elum Lake or Lake Kachess? It seems to be far away and on other side of the mountain so chances are that there will be less pollution and it is not a long drive from Seattle. However, I can't see any obvious locations at Lake Kachess where one can park their vehicle to access the lake. Any idea if it has public access? Any other places nearby? Also considering Palouse Falls but I am not sure if that place gets too crowded.

Thanks.

For the best viewing, probably any place away from the city lights where you can park a reclining chair.

There's a USFS campground on Kachess, a state park at Lake Easton, Easton State Airport, which is just a grass strip, no lights, Speelyi Beach on the south end of Lake Cle elum, or if you want somewhere out of the trees, Whiskey Dick Mountain, (where Wildhorse Wind Farm is), or Durr road that goes over Umptanum Ridge. There's also four BLM campgrounds in the Yakima Canyon on highway 821 between Ellensburg and Yakima. Light pollution shoudn't be a problem at any of these places.

Thank you. Ended up camping at Lake Kachess and it was brilliant.

What part of the horizon will this be at?
I mean what compass heading should we looking at.
We have a western view at our house but no view at all towards the east.
Thanks.

Forecast perfect for 'mythic' Perseid meteor spectacle

"The best show will be just before sunrise on either August 12th or August 13th," he said. "But if you are planning to observe in the evening hours on August 11th or 12th, start after 10pm and look either east or north-west. If you can locate the Big Dipper in the sky, look in its direction and you are bound to see some Perseids."
