I took my first Metro bus ride in a couple of years on Tuesday. The drivers have a clear plastic protective shield that swings out to block the passage when everybody has boarded. It was past the morning peak and the handful passengers on this ride were mostly young (18-30). Service was normal as far as I could tell and I didn't have a problem or feel unsafe. They've flattened the fare so it's $2.75 everywhere now, with transfers available for consecutive rides. The price is way cheaper than a Lyft ride, but it takes longer to get to most places.

Fortunately my employer provides free parking in a secure garage, though my reason for not making that walk is not poor bus service, but the homeless and criminal activity along the walk.
Transit isn’t the best option for everyone, and it’s not going to provide convenient access everywhere. A full mile from the nearest bus must be no-man’s land in Seattle (or the far outskirts).
