With the increase in seattle crime and retail businesses leaving seattle I have thought of moving to edmonds,Lynnwood or Bellevue.

Unfortunately my lease in northgate seattle doesn't expire until August 1st 2023.

At the target northgate store management has told me that they have a very high theft rate that has increased significantly in the past 2 years. That's why the target in northgate doesn't order much merchandise.

The starbucks at roosevelt sqaure is closing due to an increase in crime. There is a rumor that whole foods and bartel drugs may leave roosevelt sqaure due to theft and crime.

Starbucks isn't closing any stores in Bellevue,Lynnwood or edmonds.

Hopefully seattle city leaders will do something before it's too late.

Currently I'm worried about my car being vandalized or my apartment getting broken into.

Unfortunately you'll get the same problems in Lynnwood and Edmonds.

I moved to Edmonds earlier this year from Seattle. The crime in Seattle is discouraging but that wasn’t the primary factor for me. I simply couldn’t afford to purchase the type of property that I was able to afford in Edmonds, at least not in any of the Seattle neighborhoods I was interested in. And where I live now is so much quieter and laid back.

Lynnwood isn’t much better than Seattle IMO (it has its nicer parts though) but Edmonds feels a million times safer to me. The downtown and waterfront areas are clean and vibrant, family friendly, no needles/crazies/assaults/etc. The only area of Edmonds that’s remotely sketchy is close to Aurora. I’ve never felt unsafe personally anywhere in Edmonds though, besides the strip mall area with the TJ Maxx and Safeway on Aurora.

I would avoid anywhere near 99 and really any major commercial area. I’ve not spent a ton of time at Alderwood Mall and the surrounding areas, it always seems crazy congested over there, even more so than like Northgate or Southcenter. It didn’t seem obviously unsafe to me but again, not super familiar with it.

The parts of Lynnwood west of 99 seem to be pretty nice overall.

I stay on the east side of 99 in Lynnwood, a few blocks down the hill. I haven't encountered any problems, nor has my friend who lives there. No car break-ins or other issues. She lives in a building the county acquired a few years ago. It's a nice neighborhood down the hill a bit from there, IMO. Good restaurants, a Ukrainian grocery a couple of parks in the area. And there's the light-rail construction going on down there, as well.

It's nice to be within walking distance of 99, but far enough away for there to be a buffer. It doesn't require much of a buffer to avoid the issues that present around 99, it seems. There are some good coffee shops and grocery shopping up there, so I do like to stroll up there to explore, or get groceries. And there's a Whole Foods in Edmonds. I didn't see any homeless in the area when I was there last fall. There must be certain blocks where they cluster, or something. I saw no sign of them.

The west side past 99 wouldn't be the OP's only option, IMO.

Sure, people make that move all the time. Edmonds Bowl area, in particular, is really nice. Bellevue would probably be out of the price range you’ve shared with us. Don’t underestimate your current Northgate proximity to great transit options and to Seattle itself. As we’ve said before, there are a few places to be cautious in Seattle but plenty of neighborhoods/areas that are vibrant and (mostly) safe. Just use common sense, like any city.

OP, branch out for your coffee needs. There are lots of colorful or mellow coffee shops around, wherever you go. Try some out. You're in the N'gate area, so drive up N'gate Way to 15th NE, and go up about 3 blocks and on the right is a little cluster of shops. A jewish bakery opened there a few years ago, I think and there should be a little coffee shop, too, if it survived Covid. It's a nice neighborhood over there, nice to stroll around in. Has a rural feel.

Find other neighborhoods to explore. Ballard's a good one. Check out their farmer's market, for starters, so you can start to feel comfortable with that part of Ballard. There are shops on the streets the farmers' market uses, that you can check out, too. Then north of there is a nice neighborhood to walk around, and and scope out several coffee shops, each one with a unique ambience. I can get street names, if you decide you're ready to do that, but you can probably Google the Ballard Farmers' market. It's nowhere near downtown Ballard, so no issues.
