Hey all,

I'm about to start back in college, though I'm 43 years old. I am pursuing a bachelors in Cybersecurity and was curious to how the job market in that field is in Seattle. I'm currenlty in Augusta, Georgia which is said to become the place to be for anyone in Cybersecurity, and wondered if Seattle is or will be comparible as this field is taking off as the new IT thing.

Seattle being much larger than Augusta of course, but Augusta having Cybersecurity hubs already in place. I prefer to be in a larger city but also be where it's going to have the most potential as far as landing a career after I finish college.

So anyone in the field who may have experience in both Seattle and/or Augusta, Georgia who can give some feedback and advice, I much appreciate it!

Yes, there are cybersecurity jobs in this area. Given the number of technology companies in this area, probably any IT job is going to be in demand right now. The unemployment rate for cybersecurity is 0%, so you can likely get a job anywhere. I can't say how it will be a year from now if unemployment starts to rise.

As a sidebar I question if geography is much of a limitation anymore for IT. I'm director level at a Midwest firm, remotely interviewed in seven sessions here in Seattle in '22. Years prior I worked for an Arizona firm for years, through the 'Vid and beyond. Got tons of monitors and fat pipes, it hasn't been a problem yet.

While not absolute in the future I suspect geography will become less and less relevant for IT. I don't ever want to work in an office again. I flew into Chicago to meet my boss and team the other month and intend to do that quarterly until further notice, one week at a time, which is a helluva lot easier than a relo after all. This isn't 1999. They're staffing up in cybersecurity big-time.
