“The active weather pattern continues for western Washington with another, stronger storm system lined up to bring wind and rain to the area beginning Monday night and continuing through Tuesday.
This system is expected to bring heavy rains that will exacerbate flooding concerns and increase the risk for mud and landslides as the soils are saturated. The saturated soils will also increase the risk for potentially widespread power outages as trees could give way to the high wind gusts over the next few nights.

Widespread wind gusts are expected Monday night through Tuesday of 40 to 60 mph for all of western Washington, including all of Puget Sound. A few wind gusts could approach 70 mph near the Washington coast. This is just 4 mph shy of winds that come with a Category 1 hurricane.

A High Wind Warning goes into effect at 5 a.m. Tuesday for the southwest Washington coast, continuing until 7 p.m. Tuesday. A Wind Advisory goes into effect Monday at 11 p.m. to Wednesday at 1 a.m. for the rest of the Washington coast.

A Wind Advisory goes into effect Tuesday for most of Puget Sound, the southwest interior, western Whatcom and Skagit counties and the San Juan Islands. Strong wind gusts begin Monday night along the Washington coast and spread inland toward Puget Sound by early Tuesday morning just before sunrise. The winds will continue throughout the majority of Tuesday so this will be a prolonged, widespread wind event with winds gusting between 40 and 60 mph.

With the strong, long-duration winds, paired with the saturated soils, trees will be susceptible to falling, leading to power outages and potential damage to property. Make sure to be prepared for power outages. Charge the electronic devices, and make sure you have candles and flashlights ready. Also, be cautious if you have large trees near your home. It's probably a good time to take down or secure the Christmas decorations before the winds arrive.

Well the combination of weather recently has had some deleterious effects, given the number of sizable potholes I ran into along I-405 today. They were doing a number on my undercarriage.

I live in Mason county and oh boy, was it fun to try driving to Silverdale for a doctor's appointment this morning.

There were so many roads underwater with the rain and the king tide. Our main road out was closed about a mile before I got to Belfair, so I had to go way around to get to Hwy 3. Old Belfair Hwy in Gorst was like boating in a car. By the time I got to my appointment (40 minutes late), I wasn't sure if I'd swum or drove.

Once the rain quit and the tide pulled out, most of the water was gone. It's 7pm now and I'm listening to the wind. The number of trees down already is just mind numbing and I'm sure there will be more down before tomorrow morning.

So in a month we've had lottsa snow, rain, more snow, an ice storm, and now flooding. All we need to finish this off is an earthquake. And with my luck...

I dug the 6,500 watt generator out of the garage and got it started up after some effort, and went to fill up a 5 gallon container to keep it running. Thanks to all that work our power never went out. I'm quite sure that if I hadn't prepared we would have been without power for 6-8 hours. Ready for the next one now. The usual flooding of the right lane on E Lake Sammamish Parkway NE going toward Issaquah made an epic splash this morning, 6" deep and into the fast lane slightly.

Unless I slept through it, it was pretty much a nothing burger weather wise in Seattle proper, where we live.

My power went out for half a day. I hate when that happens.

No impacts to central (upland) Seattle. Several homes were heavily damaged in South Park, a neighborhood of lower income and mostly minority folks. I also saw that the bathhouse at Alki was partially submerged and Golden Gardens was also pretty heavily under water. Probably lots of clean up happening this week and next.
