Should you view the fireworks from the Seattle Center campus? Someone said there is a lot of obstruction of the view there (plus perhaps that could be hard on the neck if you have to look straight up for 20 minutes...idk). Another person was told that Gas Works Park is good, but that seems a bit far away. (I wonder if they were thinking about the 4th of July fireworks that were once held there.) I'm also questioning the safety of GWP on New Year's Eve...is it even safe to be around the Space Needle on New Year's Eve these days?

This is most certainly being late to the party but for future reference, the top of the Mercer St parking garage seems to be a dandy spot for watching the fireworks. The garage is open 24/7 with a good view from the SE corner of the top level.

Kerry Park in Upper Queen Anne has a stellar view. Melrose Ave from Denny north has unobstructed views as well - it's next to I-5, but even on NYE it's not that busy at that time of night.

Thank you for the replies. I'll make a note for another year.
We ended up going to the Seattle Center area...specifically the KOMO plaza. And while we couldn't hear the music, seeing the Space Needle fireworks up close was spectacular. Some other people we know watched it from the fountain and got a lot of water spray throughout the evening and were pretty cold and damp afterwards.
