That's a good size too - since I'm a beginner PNW gardener, I need to grow some veggies for my juicer, I'm going broke at the Farmer's Markets

I think it's funny - lately I've noticed I can tolerate Gardening with Cisco and actually look forward to seeing him on the weekends now - wish he'd do more veggies though

CityGirl72,
You might want to look at the "Wall of Water". I use them every year for things like tomatoes and melons and peppers...Lots cheaper than a greenhouse, though kinda strange looking.

Greenhouses and home build greenhouse kits are expensive.

For the back yard gardener you can start summer plants in a cold frame, they're cheap. Cold frame - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Years ago I had some jerry-rigged cold frames I made from cast off materials: some old wooden cement forms covered with salvaged windows. Worked fine.

Still I'm not sure how well tomatoes might do here in Seattle with the very chilly nights and frequent morning overcast?

azoria,
Some tomato varieties will just not ever get red here. So you have to find one that will mature in about 85 days or less. I grow great tomatoes every year, early maturing varieties, start them inside, and don't put them outside til the end of May.

Because SHE likes the variety of plants that SHE can grow NOW vs what SHE could grow THEN.

PNW gardening is different... and if you like the over-grown, viney, weedy, English garden look... then it's great for you... but she likes something different from that.
