Well, the good news is that you and the other guy (if there was another involved) are ok. I'm assuming you are young so definitely buy used.....some of the cars my sons have had have been VERY used. But it got them where they needed to be and didn't break the bank.

However, be careful buying used cars here right now because of the floods last Dec.....do your homework.

That's a $500 a month profit in my pocket for not owning a car. I love the bus.
Hrmm...if you commute 5 times a week...how much time do you save? Or lose. If it was me (before I came here) I'd lose about 2 hours total.

Hrmm..If you made 25 bucks an hour...X 2 hours....= 50 a day x 5 days = 250 a week x 4 weeks ...= 1000 bucks worth of saved time...At least for some folks...

I see your point, though.

70Ford, I agree entirely with your elegant math, which I love. And perhaps I do see just the smallest hint of your tongue in your lovely cheek?....

But I bussed to the office here for a million years, driving only a few times a year. And what I found was that I --

-- GAINED an hour+ x 5 days a week = 5+ hours per week x minimum 40 full weeks/year = minimum of 200 BONUS HOURS EVERY YEAR!!!!! --

-- by putting to use that 30-35 minutes each way, reading, studying, drawing, thinking about choices, writing letters, calculating mortgage amortizations at different interest rates, answering the questions of life, planning my hitchhiking trips through the galaxy....

I LOVED TAKING THE BUS, because I gained so much by not having to drive. So much learning, so much thinking things out, so much creativity... I DEFINITELY OWE MY HAPPINESS IN PART TO METRO. And that's the truth!

I don't commute, I found a place to live then got a job 2 blocks away. Savings on car+waiting for bus+meals=100% Mr. Azoria works downtown, on the express bus 20 minutes and a one block walk. $63 unlimited ride pass per month. Magic.

You can survive nicely in Seattle without a car. No midnight excursions to Walmart though.

But the time you save would not be "on the clock" at a job, since the commute actual happens before and after work. however it would be personal time...and that is priceless!!

Yes, sometimes my opinions should be taken as serious as fermented soybeans and with a grain of "shio"
Because while eating natto, as some of you know, its just so silly to try and look serious with sticky strands of fermented yumminess hanging from your chin!
