...And for what it's worth, Harborview Hospital on First Hill in Seattle very close to downtown is also a UW facility.

Renting is not a bad idea! You get to check out areas you might be interested in which to buy and leave if it doesn't work out. Building on land for a first or second time buying is a lot to chew. One of my clients who does it full time has a full plate whenever he takes on a property like that.

In any case, it's a good idea to interview a few Realtors and mortgage lenders to see what makes sense for you! The market out here is bearing some incredible deals for buyers especially first-timers with the new Federal $7500 tax credit program.

Matt

As far as checking out home and condo prices, I find redfin.com the most fun to use ( I don't work for them). You can specify size and vintage , price, and specific area just to see what's out there

IRA, very cool web site. That will come in handy. Thank you very much.

Matt, we will be renting at first, no matter where we end up. There is so much to consider. I am from Indiana. I have visited WA (Mount Vernon area) about 8 times. Ideally my wife and I want to be near the ocean and her parents in McMinnville OR. They (inlaws) moved from LaConner WA about six months ago. So we are fairly familiar with Skagit Valley. We have been considering Southwest WA since her parents moved to OR. I want to work in a magnet hospital and the only one in WA is UW med ctr. Fortunately there are three or four satelites. So much too consider. Luckily we will not be moving until next June ('09). That is why I am trying to gather as much info on so many aspects that I can. This forum has been great. I will be here for searching. Any and all comments welcome.
