My grandparents are coming to visit and their flight arrives at 8:50 Thursday morning.

So, to pick them up, is there any good way to get to the airport (by car)? I can take my toddler with me so I can use the HOV lanes (I know, an abuse, but that thread's dead). My current plan is to take him and take 520 from Redmond over to 405 southbound right into the airport.

I'm sure traffic is going to be terrible at that hour, but is there any better way?

Any estimates on how much time that takes, HOV and non-HOV?

Thanks

Coming from Redmond I think that is the quickest most direct route, and traffic should not be to awful once you get past the I-90 interchange.

I imagine it will take you anywhere from 30-45 minutes.

Seattlerain and I agree. Every time I've driven from Bellevue, your route is the one I take. Beware of southbound 405 traffic -- those drivers, even in midday, seem to think they should go 95 miles an hour. They're very aggressive and dangerous, I think. I agree with Seattlerain's timing.

Thanks! Helps to know when to leave so I'm not having to entertain a kid at the airport any longer than I have to (though with flights the way they are, I better pack a lunch anyway!). Good to know it *might* not be solid gridlock the whole way

I'm used to aggressive, the drivers here seem really passive and slow to me. Drives me nuts. I'm adjusting, but it's hard. It's just so bad. It's a highway. DRIVE. If you're in the HOV lane, drive at least the speed limit. If you're merging, MERGE. If the light's green, GO. but that thread's dead too. But if the drivers are going 95 I'll be happy. (No, I don't really expect that at 8:30 in the morning, but I can hope). I'll probably stick with 75 since the roads are likely to still be wet, but I'll try not to hold anybody up!!!

An abuse? Last I checked there was no "you must be this tall to qualify for the HOV lane" or "you can't use this lane if you're not going to work" sign.

A kid is a person. At least that's what the cops keep telling me.

Amen to that, my 10 month old son and I love the HOV lane.

And it's perfectly legal for a child of any age to make one qualify to use the HOV lane. Unlike the guy who got caught with the inflatable doll.
