Hello again,
I've narrowed down my housing options to a couple apartments. There's a great apartment at Bellevue Ave & E Pine St. in capitol hill. Can I get some insider info on this particular area?

Thanks!

Bellevue and East Pine is the "belly of the beast" of lower Capitol Hill, and I mean that in a good way. Lively, vital, fun, lots of stuff going on, extremely walkable with shopping and restaurants and supermarkets right there. Also an easy walk to downtown or a very fast bus ride. I like the area. It's too busy for some, and is densely populated. It's more "big city" than areas further away from downtown. But it's also not Times Square. Years ago I lived a few blocks from there, and the noise and activity didn't keep me up at night.

Sure, I live about a block away. There is a great coffee shop on that corner - Bauhas and a decent bar, the Chapel; a good Italian restaurant and an asian bistro.

It's close to a lot of nightlife and dining options, walking distance. Also, really really close to downtown - just a short walk a couple of blocks downhill. All in all, the location is simply perfect, especially if you work downtown like I do.

I lived on Bellevue Ave. E. for five years and enjoyed it. Bellevue and John. If the apartment is ON Pine, it will be somewhat noisy, as that's an important arterial down to downtown and up to Capitol Hill. On Bellevue Ave. E., a bit quieter.

It's a nice city area, with walking or busing access to stores. Go up to Broadway, go north and you'll find major supermarketing, a million restaurants and cafes, banks, furniture stores, book stores, everything your heart could desire.

The bus trip to downtown will be 3 minutes. Walking to downtown will take 15-20 minutes.

If I were you, I'd check first at night for noise. If you're fine with whatever there is, sounds good!

Walking to downtown is exactly two blocks from Bellevue and Pine. Once you reach the old Paramount theater on Pine, you're downtown.

True, and you then still have to walk to wherever your office building is, so I like to give conservative estimates.

And the walk back from that office building is partially uphill.

It's not on that corner specifically, but we ate at a sandwich place on Pine, called the Baguette Box, just last weekend. Good place for interesting variations on the humble Vietnamese banh mi.
