Its a given the cost of living will be hugely higher. But as a single guy, mid 40's, what should I expect (probably be moving next spring)......

Best parts of town to live (I am sure I will rent for a while)....

Thanks,

Paul

Your questions are highly vague

What kind of places do you like to live? What is your budget? What are you looking for in your move?

And what do you mean "expect"? Are you talking about jobs? people? weather?

Default sorry...

Well, since I am not exactly sure where my office is going to be, for discussions sake, lets say I wanted a 1 BR apt for 900 to 1000 per month...doable?

Weather, I am guessing it is what it is, and having moved to Texas from Minnesota, I think I can adapt to anything.

I am a little leary of this Seattle "Freeze" thing, as I am very outgoing and love to start up random conversations. I think stereotypes can and usually are, just that, however. I heard a lot about "Minnesota Nice" and found those people, in general, to be quite aloof.

I''ll know more details soon, so more info would be helpful, I am sure (on my part)

Thanks

Since you don't know where you might be interested in living, this will show you what $900-$1,000 can get you. It's the combined classifieds of the two leading newspapers in and around the Seattle area. Click on locations in the map to drill down to smaller areas and then neighborhoods. You'll learn a lot about the names of areas and neighborhoods, and about what rentals will cost.
NWapartments: Seattle apartment rentals, house rental listings, rental classifieds and other property rentals in Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue and other Washington areas, cities and neighborhoods
and craigslist:
craigslist: seattle-tacoma classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

This will give you a good overview of the job market:

As you think of specific questions, you can Google any question and find lots of answers, and feel free to c'mon back here.

Hello from a former Texan! Don't be scared by the Freeze! It did not exist for me. I am also outgoing and talkative and can strike up random conversations with success in Seattle. We have been here a year and have met lots of people and made a friends with many different groups (friends from our kid's school, friends from work, friends from the gym, sailing, skiing, neighborhood). Just be your friendly self, get out there and get involved in things you are interested in and you will be fine. Be aware though that unlike Texas, people tend to hibernate indoors much of the year due to the rainy season and are not outside very much chatting. So give it a summer before you decide Seattle isn't friendly. Also, my feeling is that people are not unfriendly, they are simply more reserved. You will notice THAT coming from Texas...simply because in Texas, check out clerks will invite you to dinner inside of 2 minutes because they are so friendly! Won't happen here. They have to get to know you first.
