Walk to the Aquarium along the waterfront from the Edgewater. You can cross Alaskan Way there and either ride the elevators up that are in the parking garage against the bluff or you can take the elevator next to the stairs that go to the market. Both elevators will take you to Western Ave. Across the street you'll see the Market clinging to the hillside. There is an elevator in an alcove that you'll see on the street level of the building, or you can walk north a little ways toward what looks like a skybridge that connects to the Market. There's an elevator there, too - and it usually isn't as busy as the elevator in the alcove is.

When you are in the Market, there are a couple of stories worth of shops underneath the Pike Place level where the fish tossers are. If you are standing where you might get beaned by a salmon, you can go south into more shops. Or you can go west and take the stairs down to the lower levels. You aren't going to find a better selection of unique shops in Seattle than you will there.

If you have anyone on your list who is a movie, science fiction or comic book fan, then make sure you find Golden Age Collectibles.
