So my wife and I and our daughter are planning on moving to Seattle in about 4 years, maybe as soon as 2 or 3. Depending on when i'm done with school. Anyways, i'm currently studying criminal justice and plan on becoming a police officer in the next 2 years, so i eventually want to end up in Seattle. Anyone have any advice on the best way to go about moving there? We currently live in Caldwell, Idaho (about 30 min from Boise).

Washington State law enforcement is well regarded. King County Sheriffs Office, Seattle PD and Washington State Patrol are probably the largest agencies in the state. I have friends who are past and present cops. Cost of living is such that many commute in from much further areas.

Was an article in the last 2 years about the Washington State Patrol and how the average level of experience in District 2, in and around Seattle, is very low because as WSP troopers gain a few years experience, they exercise it and transfer to another District where the cost of living is much cheaper.

One guy I know on Bellevue PD has told me a lot of the new guys coming on their department are living out around Enumclaw or beyond. He's also told me retirement bennies tend to be a little better among a lot of the Eastside PDs.

And, you have access to some top notch advanced training.

You can find some good information about the different LEO programs in the Washington State forum at Officer.com. I read that the WSP just canceled their upcoming class due to the state budget, but hopefully by the time you're ready to move they'll have things sorted out.

I live in rural SE King County, I'm surrounded by city/state/county police, they seem to want to live away from people.
