My mother has severe Glaucoma. The treatment cost may be very high, which unfortunately is not covered by insurance. Can anybody please suggest any government eye surgeons, who can check/treat Glaucoma with minimal charges.
I live in Seattle (Bellevue), so it if possible any Doc in & around Seattle.
Thanks in advance.

My mother is not a US citizen.. and will be atmost carrying traveller's insurance when she visits me in Seattle. The traveller's insurance is very basic, doesnt offer much help. So she doesnt have medicade. She has been examined by doctors in India, they say that operation is risky, as there is some danger of losing whatever vision she has.

I called the Glucoma consultants of Northwest and they are asking for $434 for initial consultation (when my mother is not covered under any insurance). Is there any other place I can refer? ( who can give big discount, since she doesnt have insurance)

When you spoke with Glaucoma Consultants Northwest, did you explain to THEM what your mother's financial situation is, and did you ask them for a referral? THEY are the ones who know the field and the possibilities.

Do you have medical insurance? Is your mother covered as a stated recipient on your insurance?

I did explain them my mother's financial situation & that's when they suggested that they will charge $434 instead of $670 for the initial visit.

I do have medical insurance but it covers my wife and kid. My mother is not covered under my insurance. My mother is visiting US for few months, & the Insurance companies dont take pre-existing condition... Still looking out for leads.. Thanks.

I might suggest that instead of looking for the cheapest place, you look for someplace that will do a good job fixing your mother's eyes.

$470 is not much for YOU to spend on your mother's eyes. What else were you going to do with that money if it means your mother were to go blind? Buy a TV?

It's your responsibility to be her good son. Not the government's. Step up and do the right thing.
