I think its time for a thread like this for those considering relocating to the Seattle area or the Pacific Northwest in general. We have already heard the negative from posters such as Jenbar, rocco, and numerous others on the negative (the frequency of rain/grey skies and the people). As a matter of fact thats all we hear about is the negative so I would like to hear from those who like it or love it in the pacific northwest which has more to offer than rain and grey skies. The following are some of my favorite attributes of Seattle:

1. Natural beauty I love the mountains, greenery, hills, and water.
2. Progressive culture/politics. King county recently changed its symbol to the likeness of Dr. Martin Luther King enough said.
3. Smart educated populace highest educated and most literate in the country
4. The many uniquie neighborhoods and great city parks
5. Fresh clean air/decent tap drinking water

These immediately came to mind but I would like to hear from others

Well, for starters, I love that there's coffee everywhere! :-)

I also love that there's grass you can actually walk on without crunching, unlike the "green straw" they call grass down here in Florida. Also, I LOVE that there are no fire ants! That's true, right? I sure hope it is--if you happen to be allergic to their bite (as I am), it takes nearly three weeks to get rid of the pain and swelling. Nasty, mean-tempered little critters!

I'm also looking forward to drinking water straight from the tap, which is unthinkable here. At the inspection of our house a few months ago, I checked out the tap water and it was cold and tasted great. The realtor seemed a little surprised at my excitement about the water, but good tap water is a real luxury to us. Actually to be accurate to this thread, our new house is in Poulsbo, not Seattle, but our daughter lives in Seattle, and her tap water is excellent.

In general, I admire the appreciation of individual expression and support for the arts, the open-mindedness and intelligence, the techy geek element, and all the creative entrepreneurial thinking that Seattle fosters. Must be something in the water, huh--or maybe it's the rain? :-)

Thumbs up What I Love about Seattle

1. The air is so fresh after it rains
2. My allergies don't bother me anymore.
3. I've never gotten Poison Oak or Poison Ivy from hiking.
4. The view from the water just about anywhere on Puget Sound.
5. No state income tax.
6. Neighbors that I can depend on.
7. Friendly people
8. Close to National Parks.
9. We have snow but it does not stay around for days, weeks or months
10. No extreme heat or cold.
11. All the money I save on Sun Block!
12. Always a job for folks willing to work.

This is a good thread. I love being in the city - especially West Center area. There's abundant shopping and things to do. I love the ferry rides - anywhere. Fresh seafood is awesome. Starbucks of course.

All this is in Downtown Seattle, I love the city and would be a dream to live there but it's pricey. I can only dream.

I love how people from Seattle are typically polite and are not known for personal attacks on people they don't know on message boards.

I think you pretty much covered it ! Seafair -- great times! Also, all the galleries.

As you probably noticed, some of us posted about the weather on the weather thread -- now we get a chance to talk about the things we love about Seattle!

Thanks Seattletony!
