As of this morning, the Seattle Mariners are 12-6. First place in the American League West and they have the third best record in the majors. Could this be the year that the Mariners go to the playoffs and possibly the World Series? I am holding out so far. I have waiting for years for the Mariners to return to the playoffs, and this could be the year. Their last playoff game:2001. First playoff game: 1995. This rogue Mariners fan(I use the term rogue because I live in metro Atlanta) has been holding out hope for years and now could the year.

It's way too early to bring out the champagne, but the favored Angels are full of injuries, the A's are "rebuilding" and the Rangers suck, so chances of a division title are better than they've been in years...The new GM and manager have put a big emphasis on defense, and the starting pitching and bullpen have looked real good. Branyan at 1st base has seemed like a great acquisition. The main problem so far is that nobody except Griffey is walking, as if they're getting paid by the swing. Griffey is fun to watch, hardly the superstar he was, but still has that trademark sweet swing, but about 90% slower than he was when he played for us last. Most "experts" had the M's pegged at about 75 wins this year. If they got 85 they could compete for the division title, and that looks possible right now.
Plus they are mostly a young team and getting better. But no monsters out there like Edgar Martinez or Randy Johnson or Arod or the young Griffey, just a lot of solid, mostly young players and then there's Ichiro, who claims to be from another planet. He doesn't play baseball like any earthlings I've seen.

So, haven't they already won more games than they did all last year?

(Just kidding....somewhat). Hopefully they'll give us something good to root for sports-wise in this city this year.

11 years later, still no playoffs for the Mariners.

That's true, homes. And they've let us down so many times after starting out hot that I've stopped getting excited - just to be let down.

Of course this is the Mariners season; they stopped the sport, didn't they?

The m’s off to a good start .500. 0-0.

But seriously this sport perhaps has the best restart possibilities but they are arguing about money. Good grief.
