They've been in the mid 70s for two months now

*laughs* no, no, it's not really coming down from Canada. (I know, you were being sarcastic )

The marine influence usually refers to the proximity to Puget Sound and the Pacific Ocean. The maritime climate usually minimize large extremes in temperatures but give the area ample precipitation, relatively high humidity, and sudden cloud layers after clear days of offshore flow ...maybe like the difference between today in the Seattle area compared to yesterday. The "marine push" --perhaps the term I should have used in my earlier post-- is the phenomenon that occurs frequently during the summer when Seattle gets that morning fog. It's not unusual to see this happen after extremely hot days ...the next morning you'll see fog or a low cloud layer. Some people call it the area's "natural" air conditioning.

So, again, if Seattle were to experience more days of offshore flow, then I'd really consider it the ideal climate.

Ahh yes, the good ole' advection fog. Not nearly as heavy as in say San Fransisco, but like you said provides a natural AC. Next time your home is surrounded by fog, light a big camp fire and watch all that dissipate away. Then your neighboors will wonder how in the world you performed "magic"

What is funny is that Seattle is partially in the Olympic Mountain's rain shadow. Can you imagine the precipitation Seattle would have if it were not for that mountain range?

Talk about a rain shadow...you live in the thick of one out there in Nevada, don't you?

Thanks 41Willys, Embraer & Mayfair.

Citygirl your from Sacramento? No wonder you don't like Seattle weather. It gets hot as hell there. It was about 105 the one time I was there. Is that normal for Sacramento?

Scirocco its been nice here all week. As far as turning on the heat, isn't most of the country still turning on the heat right now?

The last time I was in Seattle (it was in July) imagine my surprise when it never made it above 60 degrees. I totally didn't pack properly. But I like cooler temperatures (I have a condition in which my body doesn't produce enough perspiration to cool me off - I suffer heat stroke very easily), so I land firmly on the "like seattle climate" side.
