I may be visiting Seattle this summer for at least a week. Are there any gyms in Seattle that charge a daily rate or weekly rates for visitors from out of town. I am not exactly sure where I will be staying at. Either downtown, Edmonds, or Bellevue. If anyone has any info. of gyms they may recommend please post.

I would prefer daily rates if reasonable. I am not looking to go to the gym every day, but a few times a week. It doesn't have to be fancy, just have some cardio machines and free weights.

No one has any info. on gyms.

I also have a friend that may be relocating to Seattle next month. He is actually looking at homes and apartments in the areas I mentioned (downtown Seattle, Edmonds, Bellevue). He is not looking for a long term committment to any one gym at the moment until he decides which area he will decide to live at long term. He will more than likely rent for about 6 months in an area until he decides which area suits him best.

Again, anyone with info. on gyms please post. My friend does not read or post on CD, but I am trying help him with info. Also, the info. will be useful for me as well when I do visit.

Thanks.

That is a HUUUUUUUGE area: downtown has a bunch of gyms, and so does Bellevue. Edmonds, being a bedroom community, has fewer options. You might want to cross-reference with Yelp for this question, as gyms are rather expensive and the likelihood of a person having been in more than one or two of them is rather low.

I can tell you that (a) downtown Seattle gyms tend to be rather pricey, and (b) daily rates tend to not be very much of a bargain. For example, 24 Hour Fitness has a daily rate available for $15, but the monthly rate is $30/mo. It's not worth it to even bother with the daily rate at most gyms. Generally speaking, it is usually in your best interest to research the amenities that you want and then get a temporary pass.

A lot of the neighborhood community centers have cardio machines and weights, and have daily rates. I'm not positive about which ones in Seattle have better equipment than others, but both the renton and Tukwila Community centers have great equipment.
Also, many of the gyms will give you a free week pass to try the place out. Some of the folks may be hard sell and try to get you to sign on the dotted line, but some others are particularly nice about it.

Ira 500,

Thank you very much for the info. I went to both the Renton and Tukwila website as well as spoke to someone at both locations. That may be my best bet if I am near that part of town. Information was very helpful.

I know that the Seattle Athletic Club, of which I am a member, offers daily rates at $30 I believe. This includes towel service, locker, free classes (yoga, spinning, etc), squash and racket ball courts, swimming pool, in-door running track, basketball court, weights, cardio, dry sauna, mentholated steam room etc etc.

motor80,

thank you for the info. and I have been told as well as read that the Seattle Athletic Club has outstanding facilities. But a little more than I am willing to pay for a workout. I am just looking for a place to get a basic decent workout. Now, if the facilities has a sauna, steam room, etc. it's a bonus. In fact, I would pay more from time to time for an outstanding facility if I was to actually utilize alot of the amenities, but at $30 a day it will start eating away at my vacation budget, especially if I would go 3x a week.

I realize this is an old thread (hey, wasn't me who pulled it up) but just in case anyone is still looking for this information, you can get a monthly pass at 24 hour Fitness at Denny and Stewart for around 30 bucks, so even if you're only in Seattle for a week, that might be an option, they got a pool and sauna, too.
