Is it reasonable to commute from Kitsap county (if one is near a ferry) to UW as a full time student? Kitsap county fits my needs as far as housing because I have a multitude of animals but I will be attending UW for 2 years, undergrad and then hopefully grad school. Has anyone here done this or is currently doing this?

It's going to take a while if you utilize public transit, and it's going to be expensive if you drive.

If you lived not too far from the Bremerton terminal, the ferry ride would take an hour, and then another half hour on the #66 Seattle Metro bus from the ferry dock( or walk up the hill a few blocks and catch a 71,72,73)....if you could find a place on Vashon Island(which is King County), you could take the passenger only boat to downtown Seattle, and that ferry ride is only 20 ish minutes.

The Bainbridge Island ferry is about 35 minute ferry ride, but no large enough parcels for animals right close by the ferry dock on Bainbridge.

I used to work with someone who commuted to Queen Anne from Port Orchard, and it took him about 90 minutes....People do it, but it ain't easy.

There are also places in King county where people have animals where a ferry wouldn't be involved .

I'd certainly look into Vashon.

I would love to get a place on Vashon but rentals seem scarce there. I have to look into the rest of King County to see what you are talking about. I'd almost rather not drive because I despise it but 90mins of commute is a bit much. Thanks Ira, can always count on you for a good answer!

There are rentals available, but the best rentals around here are not advertised online. You would probably have to drive around and get numbers.
