I am moving in to Washington State with my wife and my 2-year-old son.
I have been calling around some apartments for rent in Seattle-Eastside area (Bellevue, Redmond, etc.), and some (not all) of them say that we are not allowed to move into a one-bedroom apartment with a kid that is over one year old because it's the law here. They say we have to get at a two-bedroom one.
Is it true that there's such a law?

There is no such law. In fact, there is a law against discriminating against folks who have children.
Next time you hear that from a landlord, very politely ask them to cite the specific law.

Cities and counties do have occupancy standards, see the link below for more details.

Of course that law is only enforced if you are a legal resident.

From the time I was 5 until I was 8, I lived in a Bronx apartment building with only one bedroom with my parents. If it was legal in 1983, it should be legal today.

It is against the law. I have a friend who shares a bedroom with her 4 yr old. I would report this.

Orangeblossom, you need to mind your own business. Perhaps obtaining an education or gainful employment would keep you occupied with things that are useful.

Why stop there? plant some drugs in the apartment and get the child taken away!
