I'm looking for a rain barrel to capture some of our abundant natural refreshment, but I'm on a pretty strict budget.

I know I can get rain barrels from the city directly, but they are $74.

Is there a local source for a more inexpensive alternative.

Or, what have others used as alternative barrels, maybe in the 50-gal range?

Thank you!

The utility district (Coal Creek?) serving the city of Newcastle bought a ton of rain barrels to distribute at a significant discount. I think we bought a few there at 25 dollars each. . You don't have to live there to buy one since they have so many. I'll try to dig up their contact info.

Yup, it's the Coal Creek Utility District in Newcastle. Call them to see if they have rain barrels:

Try soft-drink bottling plants and candy makers. We got ours (50-gallon) at 5 bucks each, only had to wash out fruit-flavored syrup residue, which left no aftertaste. Heavy-duty food-grade plastic.

(This was in the Portland area a year ago. I'm sure Seattle will do even better for you with a little research.)
