So people don't move to/from SoCal to/from Seattle?
People don't move to/from the Deep South to/from Seattle?

It's a valid comparison because people move to/from Seattle to/from all over the place.

It IS true that for it's latitude Seattle has an EXTREMELY mild climate - in fact we are in the same USDA planting zone (which looks at the lowest expected temperature) as places like the Gulf Coast or coastal Deep South. The result is that folks coming from a similar latitude (either in the upper Midwest or the East Coast) will find that we hardly have a winter at all compared to what they are used to. However, for each of them, they are likely to find that true summer takes FOREVER to arrive - and once it does, it's VERY NICE (if generally cooler than I personally prefer) but also pretty darned short.

THAT is my personal reason for retiring elsewhere.

I didn't say people must be stupid to move. I said it's stupid to COMPARE the weather in Seattle to the weather in San Diego. As I said San Diego is located 1300 miles south. It is obvious that San Diego has warmer and sunnier climate. That's like someone who moved from Miami to Alaska to complain how the weather in Alaska is colder and cloudier than Miami I never understand these people.

Folks compare Seattle to those OTHER locations because some people have MOVED here from those other locations. I don't care how much sense it makes, if you moved to Seattle from Tampa you WILL compare Seattle's weather to where you came from (in that case Tampa). I'm moving to Arizona some day and I always find myself comparing the weather in the two locations - whether that comparison is fair or not. It's just human nature.
