One of many reasons why Seattle will always be following and never leading. Light rail is another example but it looks like the baby steps are finally here 15-20 yrs later. Most people here are just afraid of change, even a change for the better.

It would be good for the residents of the county that have to drive into the city to use the hospitals if they did relocate to outer cities.

Quick anecdote: in 1979, a 6-year old cousin of mine was diagnosed with luekemia. Went into Children's, and frankly, the outlook was not good. Today, that cousin is a productive 36-year old adult, thanks I'm sure to the care he received at Children's. Nickels is right. I will support expansion of this hospital time and again, despite neighbors complaints about "more traffic". Ask my cousin about more traffic.

The thing is, it's not the neighbors, it's the upper-crust donors of the Laurelhurst Community Club who are against everything and anything, and they've even inserted themselves into issues not even in their (and I use this term loosely) "jurisdiction", like the construction of playfields at Magnuson Park, and building height requirements in Roosevelt.
