I see some job postings for Starbucks district managers. How's the business right now? Stable or declining? I hear that they pay really well and that it is a great company to work for.

We're considering making a change but leery about quitting one job that is stable to go to another that may not last....

Well, let me just say that Starbucks does layoff's as a last resort. They care deeply about their employees, I used to work there. Great company. Lots of people want to work there and I would get in if you can!

Despite all the bad things you hear about Starbucks about how they are laying off people and closing stores , etc....Starbucks is still a healthy company. The thing is, how much growth do people expect from them? I think they are pretty much maxed out. I don't expect Microsoft or Starbucks to grow any larger than they are. They have put their products pretty much everywhere and have reached the top.

Starbucks is a legendary company. They made it cool to drink coffee. Drives me nuts how people in Seattle try to avoid Starbucks because it's "corporate" or whatever. Starbucks has always had a quality product....they are by no means the "McDonalds of coffee" and sort of disturbing that people around here seem to think so. Outside Seattle....Starbucks is KING. Kind of weird how Seattle rejects some of the main ingrediants that keep this town alive.

If I remember correctly they closed a few of their slower locations last year. I still see them at every corner though (sometimes two at the same corner).

Starbucks closed a bunch of stores last year throughout the US. I think the worst is behind them...they were a little oversaturated, with sometimes two Starbucks right across the street from each other, and with an economic downturn, some people gave up their daily double tall hazelnut skinny latte. While I personally don't like the taste of Starbucks coffee, I have known people who work there, and they are a very good employer.

Starbucks will be fine in Seattle, and elsewhere. They made their cuts, and they probably were needed.

The vocal minority in Seattle will always be loud, but if the local outlets that remain were not doing well, they would close too.

BTW, at some locations in the west they are serving breakfast sandwiches, and I must say they are much better than MickyD's.

Tully's is a lot better. With Tully's you get better coffee for the same price, they roast it right here in Seattle. Employees at Tully's have a greater interest in making good coffee without a song and dance. Best of all, you don't have to be reminded that Howard Schultz, while good at coffee, is the worst performer ever in the Seattle sports scene. He tried to put a sweet face on selling the Sonics out of town, grabbing a hundred million $$ in the process, but anyone with a brain knows the shame of supporting this swindler. He's worse than Madoff.

I don't like Starbucks as well. They have become like the McDonald's of coffee world.

But just as McDonald's, they will be fine and around for a long time.
