I've lived in Bellevue for two years, and both my husband and I grew up in the metro area. Bellevue is pricey - there's no way around that. Our combined income is in the high 100's and we live in a 1959, 1350sq' rambler. With our income, we could have waterfront property in some of the outlying areas. However, we live here because of the schools (several high schools rank in the top 100 nationwide), and for proximity to the city and our jobs. It's fairly close in to Seattle, so commuting under a hour makes the smaller house a fair trade off.

expensive....in Bellevue
Great shopping though. Close proximity to Seattle. HORRID commute, absolutely terrible traffic, from 6 am to 8 pm sometimes even on weekends.

It used to be called "Ken and Barbie" land. Now it's downtown area has kind of become a small Seattle, the tallest building is probably 35-40 stories, and there are a bunch of them, a fair number of higher profile Seattle companies have moved to downtown Bellevue over the last 15 years. Traffic is terrible, I would rather drive in downtown Seattle than downtown Bellevue. As mentioned very expensive, but the homes are pretty nice, you wouldn't be very far from Bill Gates house!
