Has anyone stayed at the MarQueen Hotel?

For an upcoming trip I'd like to try something outside of the downtown core...but still accessible to everything within the city (w/o necessarily needing to drive)..This location seems to fit the bill since its steps from Seattle Center and it seems fairly easy to get downtown, while allowing us to explore the Queen Anne neighborhood & beyond..

Any feedback regarding the location and/or the hotel specifically would be appreciated

thanks

I've never stayed in the Marqueen, but I lived in the neighborhood about the time it was converted to a hotel (late 90's). It used to be an apartment building. The hotel is old and charming, but I don't know how functional it is. There's a coffee shop (Cafe Ladro) in the northwest corner of the building that can be accessed directly from the hotel lobby.

The neighborhood is fine. It's walkable and safe with restaurants and bars and has good bus service to downtown. The block just south of the Marqueen (south of the intersection of Mercer and Queen Anne Avenue North) has a bus stop where almost all the buses go directly downtown (the only one that doesn't go downtown is the 8, which goes to Capitol Hill). Heading north, bus nos. 2 and 13 will take you to upper Queen Anne, which has restaurants and bars and great views. The bus stop on 1st Avenue North (opposite the Easy Street Records parking lot) is where you can catch these.

I stayed there for one night last year and I thought it was nice, if you like historic style hotels. I happen to like them along with the squeaky floors but it's not for everyone. One great thing is the rooms have a small kitchen with microwave and a table and chairs. It really has more of a small apartment feel than your average hotel room with a bed in it. One tip someone told me when booking is to make sure you get a room towards the back of the building since the front can be noisy at night when you are trying to sleep. We did and were satisfied they were able to accomodate my request and noise was not an issue at all. If you have time, check out the Teatro Zinzanni show located a couple of blocks away. Great show and good food. A bit pricey but worth it IMO. I think you will enjoy your stay at the hotel and location is definitely good.
