Hi all,

We are in the process of moving into our new rental just west of Marymoor Park in Redmond. We are very excited to be making the move from the East Coast to the scenic Seattle suburbs!

I am a bit concerned about traffic. Specifically, I am commuting to UW from the area (about 13 miles). Looking at mapquest and gps, I am getting 2 routes off 520. The first is to take the Montlake exit (I believe) and the second is to go to I-5 and then take 45th. Any advise from the experienced would be helpful on which route to take. Also, how long can I expect my trip to take if I leave between 7:45am-8:00am and return at 5:30pm on the weekdays? Thanks in advance.

What route you take depends on where in the University Area you're going to. Montlake goes to the university itself while the I5 route will take you to the U-district commercial area. I don't know the times from Redmond, but expect to wait on 520 to get across the bridge.

If parking/traffic becomes an issue, you might want to look into taking the bus. Google maps plots the bus route for you, and you play around with times.

You have selected the most congested commute route in the area (Microsoft - Seattle downtown).

I suspect you will have less problem in the morning, but afternoon commute will be very bad - congestion at Montlake before going onto the 520 bridge, and around Microsoft campus before going off the ramp to Marymoor Park.

Thanks for the info above. How long do you think it will take to commute via car in the morning leaving around 7:45am to 8:00am? What about in the evening? Does 45 minutes each way sound about right?
