Hi all. Well my husband is in the coast guard and is due to transfer next year and were trying to figure out where we want to move. Seattle is one of the available billetts... I think it would be a nice place to live, but all I hear about is how much it rains there, so I thought I would come on here and find out just how much it actually does rain... I appreciate any info!

Jennifer

Actual annual rainfall in Seattle is about 38 inches per year, less than most east coast cities.
But from around mid October to February?, there's very little sunshine. It doesn't often get wickedly cold, there are a lot of winter days with the highs in the upper 40's and either cloudy or light drizzle, but we also do get hard rain in those months...July, August, and September are generally awesome, the best part of the US in the summer, sunny but not real hot.
So, it rains frequently, but it mostly doesn't amount to a whole lot.

Well, the average is about 37 inches per year I believe. The current month of November is statistically the wettest month of the year so we've had rain almost everyday in Nov. For the most part the rain is a light drizzle or mist instead of the usual downpour and then clearing you have in other parts of the country although we can get an occasional downpour. Other than that, the rest of the winter will be days of cloudy weather with no rain at all, light drizzle and sun mixed in. It can feel like it rains a lot but it's mostly the overcast skies that get to people. When the clouds clear out on a bright sunny winters day though, there is breathtaking views of snow capped mountains in all directions.
