Inkpoe,
My trips back may have been euphoric. That said, I do visit Seattle at least 2-3 times a year and I've been gone since August 2001, so I think my assessment is fairly accurate. My guess is you haven't spent much time in South FL or heavily populated cities in the South.

And as far as hot goes...I hear ya! I'm done with HOT as well!

Kroger is the Evil Empire. The minute they bought QFC and Fred Meyer, they both went downhill.

Oh no! Are you serious? I hate Kroger--that's all they have in Louisville. Well, they'll wreck QFC for sure--I'm sorry to hear that!

QFC is just like Kroger. I moved here from Indiana, and I still use my Kroger discount shopper card in QFC here. They carry Kroger generic brands as well. However, unlike Kroger in Indy, QFC carries an extraordinate selection of beer.

Oh, Kroger's is an evil empire. It's never good when one company owns too much and then markets it as independent:

  • Dillons (Kansas, Missouri)
  • Food 4 Less and Foods Co. (Los Angeles, California; San Diego, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Chicago, Illinois; NW Indiana)

  • Fred Meyer (Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington)
    • Fred Meyer Marketplace (Alaska, Oregon, Washington)
    • Fred Meyer Northwest Best (Oregon, Washington)
  • Fred Meyer Jewelers (Kentucky, Utah)
    • Littman Jewelers
    • Barclay Jewelers
    • Fox's Jewelers
  • Fry's Food and Drug (Arizona)
    • Fry's Marketplace (Arizona)
    • Fry's Mercado (Arizona)
    • Fry's Signatures (Arizona)
  • Gerbes (Missouri)
  • Hilander (Illinois)
  • JayC Food Stores (Indiana)
  • King Soopers (Colorado, Wyoming)

  • Quality Food Centers (Oregon, Washington)
    • QFC Fresh Fare
  • Quik Stop (California, Nevada)
  • Ralphs (California)

What I love about Seattle:
Beautiful natural beauty
Water all around
Its old architecture, especially the houses
No oppressive heat and humidity
Not so cold winters
Downtown Seattle and Pike Place Market
The Bite of Seattle
Seafair
The holiday season in dt Seattle
Seattle is a photographer's paradise
Mario's, Barney's and flagship Nordstrom
Ferry system
Close proximity to Vancouver B.C., Portland, and the getaways like Port Townsend, San Juan Islands, Victoria, Lake Chelan........
just to name a few

Dislikes
Just the beginning of light rail(years late)
People here turn their nose up to public transit
Car cultured area
Smokers everywhere
The tearing down of the old and replacing with new cheap and hideous townhomes around the city.
Nightlife not exactly late night.
No more Pampas Room at El Gaucho with the live jazz.

I find these two really funny.

Compared to CA, there is no car culture here. My husband and I are amused by the seeming lack of it compared to areas of Southern CA. Also, there doesn't seem to be any disdain for public transit here, my husband's commuter buses are always packed. In CA the attitude is only poor people ride buses.

It's interesting how coming from somewhere other than CA that Seattle would come off with those two things.

At least SoCal has those train and bus systems, even if only poor people use them. Indianapolis has, like, 5 bus lines in a metro area of over a million and not even poor people use them.

So compared to Indy, Seattle is pretty much a public-transport Mecca
