My husband and I are moving to Seattle next week. He's gotten a job with Amazon.com, and they're giving us a corporate place for 30 days. My husband would prefer not to commute for more than 45 minutes each way in traffic (preferrably less). Can anyone tell me what neighborhoods in Seattle qualify for that commute, and what cities to the south and east would also work. I'm starting to panic about finding a place, even though I'll have all of June to look, I'd rather find something sooner rather than later. I've found nice places in Issaquah and Bothell, but I've been told the commute from both places is a nightmare.

Thanks!

V. =)

ETA: I think I might have asked this already, but it was before the move was an actual reality.

Default Commuting to Amazon

I've helped a client, who took a job with Amazon, to relocate from Chicago. They settled on a house near the Seward Park area. Until recently, they did not have a second car.

Unless you've moved here from LA or San Francisco or NY City or Boston you'll find Seattle housing expensive.

It really depends on your housing budget. Are you looking to rent or own, and what is your price range?

Well, we're moving from San Diego, so from what we've seen, Seattle is cheaper.

We're looking to rent initially with a budget of about $1700/month or so.

Check out Issaquah. You'll need to take a bus but it will be worth it.

My son-in-law has worked for Amazon for years, and he says his commute from Phinney Ridge (near the Woodland Park Zoo) is very easy. I think it's usually about 15-20 minutes.

Thanks, that's my number one area of interest at this point. Something about what I've read about the town on line, I'm really drawn to it!

Bellevue is definately a nice area. Oh yeah Bill Gates lives there, but it's still pretty affordable I think, look into it. Also I recommend looking north of the city, rather than south of the city. Good luck!

Thanks! I've been looking some places north, but it's so hard to judge from far away. At least next weekend I'll be in town, and I can start looking at stuff in person!

Just to respectfully make one correction to what you said, moonsavvy, Bill Gates resides in Medina.

And Medina is not pretty affordable. It is quite exclusive and an incorporated town with its own city council and police department. Medina doesn't come up for discussion too much on this forum.

Thanks ...appreciate your posting.
