The puget Sounds area is anything around puget sound. If you google Puget Sound you will see it on a map. I think you will hate the weather, unless of course you hated SoCal it rains a LOT in Kent and puget sound in general.

Kent is mostly comfortable, safe. Parts of Kent is a bit run-down, but otherwise its an relatively affordable suburb with easy access to the ocean (via Des Moines) and the Mountains (take Hwy 18 to i90). Has shopping areas and is close to one of the biggest malls in the state (Southcenter). Has its own mall, Kent Station which also has a train that will take you to DT Seattle and if you feel like going on a trip, will take you to Portland, OR.

Kent doesn't rain anymore than Seattle. Personally, I just shrug off the rain, but of course there are people who can't handle the "Seattle gloom".

I moved from CA. Where in CA are you? I'll tell you whether or not you'll like Kent. To me Kent is sort like Ramona (Southern CA) or Dublin (Northern CA).

Also, WA rain isn't like CA rain. I am a Californian that loves rain. But I love the crazy hard rain that CA will get when it rains. WA only has rain like that once or twice a year. Most of WA rain is just drizzle.

Oh, and if you're a Californian that doesn't like heat (like I am), you'll be disappointed on days above 75 degrees, when you discover that there's no air conditioning in homes or apartments here. I've been here for 3 summers now, and they have all had long stretches of 80+ degree temperatures, and no air conditioning.

WA has a lot going for it, though. We're going to buy a house here.

Good luck with your move!

I'm from San Diego, CA and am very familiar with Ramona . I love all kinds of rain and thank you! I'm excited for the road trip.

Also, one of the reasons I R moving up here is that my friends told me there is a big community of pacific islanders and I am a polynesian dancer that would like to get back into dancing [took a over a year off] There are 2 Halaus that I'm very interested in.

Cool! We moved from San Diego as well (Carmel Mountain Ranch). We were looking at houses in Kent, but the commute seemed a bit much for my husband.

I did the road trip up from San Diego. There is some beautiful beautiful scenery!

V. =)

We were trying to save time, so we did I-5 all the way. Still a lot of pretty scenery, though!

I've done 101 from Eureka CA to Astoria OR and did I-5 from Sacramento to Seattle. If you have time do 101. The drive through Oregon is gorgeous!
