Hello!

My family and I are moving to Seattle this spring and I was wondering what you can tell me about Magnolia? We are a family of four with 2 small children, one who is entering kindergarten next year. How are the Seattle schools in this area? Lots of kids? It looks like Magnolia has a nice commute to dowtown and the airport...something we are looking for. We plan on renting before we buy. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

There are two public schools in Magnolia, Lawton and Catherine Blaine. Both are considered very good. Catherine Blaine goes from K-8, Lawton is K-5.
For the most part, Magnolia is pleasant and pretty, and there are some great views from there.
Magnolia has newer houses than many Seattle neighborhoods, which is neither a good thing or a bad thing. But if you've got your heart set on a 20's Craftsman, Magnolia is not a likely place to find one. Lots of 60's and newer. The parts of Magnolia considered not quite as good is the area right next to 15th Avenue West, and even that isn't too bad but it has a very different feel than the heart of Magnolia. If you've got some money to blow, Palisade Restaurant in Magnolia is pretty spectacular.
