Checkout www.mynewplace.com. It's not exactly local, but it's pretty user friendly and a bit like redfin, but for rentals. It is the only rental site I'm aware of where you can limit results to a mapped area.

You can use a real estate agent to find rentals as well, though not all lessors are willing to pay agents...but many of the nicer homes and corporate forced relo people will use them if they are trying to keep their house and move elsewhere for a while. I had a friend use an agent I recommended and they found a few things but ultimately he told he her would probably just look on Craigslist. Keep in mind, my friend wasn't paying him but the people who were listing their property for rent were.
