I think the same of my home state of Arkansas. There are already people living off the grid, killing game, and growing their own fruit and vegetables. Lots of water too.
I think it could be a good area, along with parts of Missouri. Too bad I don't tolerate heat and humidity worth beans. I pretty much have to stick with the north country. Utah is BAD enough in the summer. I'm afraid I'd have a heat stroke in no time in a place like Arkansas (unfortunately). But, yes, the area has some definite advantages. Especially with agriculture.

Yeah, it is VERY humid here in the summer. Humidity sucks.
I like Northern California. Particularly the valleys (Northern Sac Valley, Ukiah Valley, Interior Humboldt Valleys). Enough rain, fertile soil, away from earthquake zones, mild winters, not too populated, hunting is an option, hydro and solar are electricity options....
Most of the folks that I know would be completely miserable after the third day of tent camping life; I'm not gonna bug out for at least 3 months.....as most of the bugoutters will have perished by that time.
This way, I can travel light, go anywhere, and use dead people's stuff.
I like the upper midwest, preferably the U.P. of Michigan.
Remote, insular, and plenty of natural resources vs. humans. (I'm talkin' ratio here)
The problem is getting there, especially if you're 3000 miles away......

Reason: add
Since nobody knows for sure what to expect, why not take this advice in consideration as well. Just in case
Let's see... for example, for ChrisC: UP MI and ME look good.
Scratch ND
And I definitely need to get out of FL
(working on it)
Scratch ND!!! The horror!
Interesting document. The sad thing is that it mentions an area not too far from where I am as extremely safe (western Utah desert areas). Hmmm. Maybe so, but it's not too safe if I have a heat stroke out there!
Black belt of rural Alabama has best soil in the country, cheap utilities, sparse population, abundant water, little pollution, long growing season, cheap land, live free mentality

All true. Too bad about the 100% humidity and 90+ heat. Seriously, if I thought I could tolerate the heat/humidity, I'd look into the area. Clearly, there are advantages with agriculture, water, and not using as much heat during the winter. Oh well.
