A good rationale for self-sufficiency and preparedness is charity. Being good to yourself and your family, by stocking up, etc, relieves 'the system' of diverting resources to you. So you are being charitable, by maintaining productive capacity, when others shift to consumption / rescue me mode.

Another reason: Prosperity is not measured in money tokens.
Prosperity is the creation, trade and enjoyment of surplus usable goods and services.
If / when the fans fling fecal flecks, being able to produce and trade will boost chances for survival.

A man with a year's supply of money will not outlast a man with a year's supply of food.

Folks, notice that the original poster, im_a_lawyer, STILL hasn't made even one more post on this thread.

That the OP is a Troll is becoming more and more likely. Let's stop feeding it, okay?

FWIW,

I agree.

Mods, since the OP is most likely a troll looking for a quick laugh and to get a rise out of people on this forum, can you please lock this thread so we can get rid of the trolls thread.

To the contrary, it's fun showing a sheep he indeed thinks like a sheep.

This thread is good bait for future trolls. The title of the thread is catchy enough "you are all crazy" to suck them in hook, line and sinker

Tex I love a good storm. I'ld use my typical yankee slang, but that would get me busted

Long ago as a foreign car mechanic, I made a green VW bug into a mud hopper. About the time Mt St Helens blew up. A customer commented on seeing my bug at the beach, but didn't know it was mine. He thought it was a car all the way back east from being at that mountain!

I can get really dirty with almost no effort at all. I was prepped well back then too. Carrried chains and come-a-longs plus tools.

I hope I never grow up. I see no sence in being grown up a bit, and I am 59... sad huh? But life if for living not setting about all clean and nice.
