I saw that. I am cautiously optimistic that it is relatively accurate. Why optimistic? Because the first step towards meaningful change and growth is defining what currently exists.
I can ignore the corporations, I can't ignore the government. So you tell me... which is the lesser of the two evils?
Businesses give you something in return for your money. Businesses don't kill you or lock you in a cage if you decide not to do business with them. Businesses must produce something of value to survive and prosper. Shareholders want to make money just as you do. government may arrogate to themselves the role of producer (we call that socialism) but they can never compete with business in either quakity or price.
Business thrives in a climate of freedom; government thrives in a climate of control. Business people respect hard work and intelligence. Government parasites fear those qualities.
Business in the form of capitalism is the road to freedom and prosperity, government the road to slavery.
Want to vote against a business? Stop doing business with them. Do you think you would you really like it if the government owned Wal-Mart?

At this point the capitalism that the Tea Party is pushing for (small government, true free market) is out of sync with time. The corporations are very involved in the way the government works, the way laws are written and passed etc. The government bailed out the Banks, the car manufacturers, it subsidizes oil companies etc. I have not heard any of the Republican or Tea Party candidates ask for lobbying to be banned or abandoned as a concept. Quite the opposite, they raise money for their campaigns from corporations, CEOs who run these corporations etc. etc. To rally against big government but leave the big corporations intact is like "screwing for virginity".... (pardon the comparison)
What you have today is nothing different than what you have in South America (an oligarchy) - 1% of the population has as much as the remaining 99%. Even if you ignore that fact, the fact that you have multinational corporations/conglomerates controlling your food supply, your financials system, they are all apparently too big to fail etc., the individuals that are members of the oligarchy are replaced with corporations, however, corporations are entities with individual rights but without the responsibility (how convenient).
I don't think our founding Fathers envisioned this form of oligarchy 200+ years ago when they wrote the Constitution. It is an intricate mechanism and unfortunately out of reach at this point.
To answer your final question about Walmart, I would actually like it if there was no Walmart and everything was local small businesses (craftspeople etc. producing things locally).

I would like to see this too. But it's like a lot of other things: it needs to be done through education/cooperation, rather than legislation/force. You simply can't force "good." It never works for long.
Actually, it boils down to greed. I firmly believe in the free market system. But I don't believe in what we have today, which is greed-based capitalism. Today's world revolves around greed and a lust for power. No system can survive for very long with those as cornerstones.
With that said, again, I may not agree with big corporate business, but nobody is twisting my arm to buy from those firms. I can simply ignore them. When we're talking big government, well that affects my daily life. And I certainly can't ignore that.
