I just ran across this article in the semiofficial journal Small Wars. Take a look. Before you dismiss it out of hand please go to the end and read the biographical comments about the authors. The government is concerned about dissent and resistance to new policies but they do not contemplate backing off.
I don't understand what you are asking. The authors are positing a scenario and a response. Do you expect the government not to respond to the situation as given? I was in the army 30 years ago and military operations on US soil because of political ideologies were being discussed then. There is nothing to see here.
Like Joe, we were taught this stuff 30 years ago in the military.
Do an internet search for "military functions in civil disturbances". There's free books from the military or other sites that have covered the subject/training for years.
They specifically named the Tea Party; that's a first. I do expect the American Robot Corps. (sometimes called the military) to be willing instruments of repression. But when their paychecks stop they'll be no different from the Russians. Before that happens, however, they could be conducting mass roundups.
And so what? Since you already have your mind made up, there is no sense in trying to engage in reasonable discourse. Your post is offense to everyone who has ever served in the military.

being a former combat vet, his post does not offend me. it only makes sens to look at all options and possibilities when it comes to potential shtf scenarios.
The US military was used in labor disputes...the active duty miltary. During the Pullman Strike in the 1890s, and then in 1919 or 1918 active duty miltiary (stationed at Fort Sheridan) occcupied Gary, Indiana during a steel strike...including setting up checkpoints and machine gun nests in case they that to shoot down the strikers.
So it's been done. That was active duty. Probably even more examples of the National Guard being used in civil disturbances.
